Scratchpads are available free for non-commercial purposes related to natural history.

Fill out and submit the electronic form below to initiate your Scratchpad application. You will need to choose a domain name and provide a Google API key. The API key is necessary if you ever want to generate Google distribution maps. It is also a way to for us to eliminate spam registrations! (* Field Required).

Information about your Scratchpad, including necessary API keys.

The site title will appear in the header section of your Scratchpad by default but can be removed later.

The taxonomic group which best describes what taxa will be featured on your site. e.g. Insecta, Aves, Phthiraptera, Dragons

Tips on choosing a domain name

A description of your site, including what information a user of your site is likely to find there. By default the mission statement will appear on the front page of your site (although this can be changed later).

Go to the Google API key signup page, check the terms & conditions, enter the URL for your new Scratchpad ("xyz.myspecies.info") and click on the 'Generate API key' button. Sign into an existing Google Account or create a new one. If you are now back on the Sign up page you will have to reenter the data to generate the API key. You will now see a page with several versions of the API key. Copy the first version under 'Your key is:' and paste it in the field above.
