Progress
Each Scratchpad is an independent website, owned by the community that uses it. To provide some connectivity between sites and a measure of progress toward all taxon coverage, we will (in due course) map taxa referenced in the Scratchpads to a TreeMap visualization. This will provide an integrated window into the content and quality of coverage present within the sites. For reasons we won’t go into here, this is harder than it sounds. However, to give you an idea of what this might look like, here is the Catalogue of Life 2008 classification as a space constrained TreeMap, courtesy of Rod Page. Click around the TreeMap to browse the taxonomy:
In time we will cross reference this with an index of the taxa present within the Scratchpads. The way the TreeMap is coloured will provide some indication on the quality of Scratchpad content. We may also provide alternative mappings. For example, each space could be mapped to an exemplar image of each taxon.
